Secure File Transfer Platform Using AWS Transfer Family and Amazon S3

The enterprise relies on the secure exchange of sensitive operational and financial data with external partners and internal business units. They required a...

[Overview] System Overview

Ampity Infotech deployed a secure, highly available file transfer solution using AWS Transfer Family for fully managed SFTP services, backed by Amazon S3 for scalable cloud storage. This serverless architecture enables seamless B2B data exchange, automatic scaling, and robust security eliminating the operational burden of managing legacy file transfer servers.

[Targets] The Goals

[Strategy] Our Solution

The delivered file-transfer design uses AWS Transfer Family as the SFTP endpoint and Amazon S3 for file storage. IAM policies govern storage access, and CloudWatch supplies operating logs. This logical view omits the custom authentication configuration.

[DESIGN] Architecture design

SFTP clients connect to a Transfer Family server endpoint backed by S3. IAM governs storage access and CloudWatch supplies logs. Custom authentication and network topology are not shown.

[APPROACH] Execution model

##### Architecture Design

Defined bucket structure, IAM roles, and security policies.

##### Service Configuration

Provisioned AWS Transfer Family endpoints and integrated with VPC

##### SSH Migration

Migrated user SSH keys to the new system

##### Go-Live & Validation

Conducted connectivity tests and load testing prior to partner cutover

[RESULTS] Delivered scope

Ampity configured the managed file-transfer endpoint and S3 storage access, migrated SSH keys, and carried out connectivity and load checks before partner cutover. This account does not supply the measurement records needed for an uptime, savings or maintenance-elimination percentage.

[ANTI-PATTERNS] Access and transfer checks

For a similar implementation, test the allowed storage path and a denied path separately. Check which IAM permissions apply to the transfer identity, whether the destination reader can access an uploaded file, and how incomplete transfers are handled. These are review questions, not additional test results attributed to this project.

[APPLICABILITY] Where this pattern applies

Managed SFTP can fit partner workflows that need a familiar file-transfer interface with S3-backed storage. Review the endpoint configuration, identity model, network access and operating cost for the actual workload. A separate cross-account design is described in the partner file-exchange case. The two account arrangements should not be treated as the same implementation.
